Johann Blanchard was born in Romans-sur-Isère in 1988 and has resided in Germany since 1992. He grew up in a musical family and learned to appreciate classical music in this home environment. He received his initial instruction in piano from Prof. Sigrid Lehmstedt at the age of six and subsequently continued his education at the renowned Belvedere Castle Music School in Weimar. During this period he presented his first concerts in the solo, chamber, and orchestral fields and received various prizes and distinctions at Jugend musiziert, Gotrian Steinweg, and Robert Schumann Piano Competitions. In 2006 Blanchard enrolled at the Rostock College of Music and Theater, where he went on to conclude his studies with distinction in the class taught by Prof. Matthias Kirschnereit and Prof. Karl Heinz Will. Concurrently, he studied at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna in the class taught by Prof. Stefan Arnold. His work with musicians such as Michel Beroff, Bernd Goetzke, Pavel Gililov, Elisabeth Leonskaya, Bernard Ringeissen, and Claudius Tanski also contributed to his development. During his study years Blanchard held a fellowship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes,the Horst Rahe Foundation and received numerous prizes and distinctions at international competitions such as the Piano Campus in Pontoise/Paris, Palma d’Oro in Italy, Ferrol in Spain, and Unisa in South Africa. Johann Blanchard has concertized at the Konzerthaus in Berlin, in Prague and Paris, at the Musikverein in Vienna, in New York, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and Johannesburg, and at the European Classical Festival in the Ruhr, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Gezeitenkonzerte, L’Été Musicale in France, and Jewish Music Festival in San Diego. He has performed as a soloist with ensembles such as the North German Philharmonic, Polish Chamber Philharmonic, and New Westphalian Philharmonic. On various occasions he has been heard live on the NDR Kultur radio program, ORF and Radio France. In addition to his career as a soloist, Blanchard dedicates himself to chamber music and is heard in many different ensemble formations in this field. Since 2016 he is the new Pianist from the renowned Trio Parnassus.With the recording of the Chamber Music from Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck they won the prestigious Opus Klassik in 2021.However, his own performing means little to him if he does not have the opportunity to share the enthusiasm that music inspires in him. Accordingly, his teaching commitments include instruction at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach School for musical excellence in Berlin and the Engelbert Humperdinck KMS Potsdam-Mittelmark.Moreover, he is interested in other fields of music such as jazz and electronic music. With Projects like "Hounah" and "Synth Happens" he is performing with the Film Orchestra Babelsberg,the Dortmund Philharmonics,the National Theater of Mannheim and the Kieler Philharmonics Orchestra.Since 2012 he is recording for the Label MDG (Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm) were he received the German Record Critics Award for the recording of the Piano Works of Cecile Chaminade.
Johann Blanchard wurde am 18. Juni 1988 in eine Musikerfamilie geboren und verbrachte seine Jugend in der traditionsreichen Kulturstadt Weimar. Im Alter von sechs Jahren erhielt er von Prof. Sigrid Lehmstedt seinen ersten Klavierunterricht, den er 1998 am renommierten Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere in Weimar fortführte. In dieser Zeit spielte er seine ersten Konzerte als Solist und Kammermusiker und erhielt mehrere Preise und Auszeichnungen bei Klavierwettbewerben, wie “Jugend musiziert”, Grotrian Steinweg und Robert Schumann. 2006 führte ihn sein Weg nach Rostock, wo er an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in der Klasse von Prof. Matthias Kirschnereit und Prof. Karl Heinz Will sein Studium mit Auszeichnung abschloss. Parallel studierte er an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien in der Klasse von Prof. Stefan Arnold. Weitere Anregungen erhielt er u. a. von Michel Beroff, Bernd Goetzke, Pavel Gililov, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Abdel Rahman el Bacha, Bernd Glemser, Bernard Ringeissen, Pascal Nemirovski und Claudius Tanski. Während seiner Studienzeit war er Stipendiat der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes und erhielt zahlreiche Preise und Auszeichnungen bei internationalen Wettbewerben, wie u.a. beim “Piano Campus” in Pontoise/Paris, “Palma D oro” in Italien, “Ferrol” in Spanien und “Unisa” in Südafrika. ́ Johann Blanchard konzertierte bereits im Konzerthaus Berlin, in der Liederhalle Stuttgart, im Nikolaisaal Potsdam, im Musikverein Wien, im Teatro Municipal Asunción, in Paris, Prag, Los Angeles, New York, Buenos Aires, Chengdu und Johannesburg und spielte beim Europäischen Klassikfestival Ruhr, den Festspielen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, den Gezeitenkonzerten Ostfriesland, beim l Été musicale in Frankreich und dem Jewish Music Festival in San Diego/USA. Als Solist trat er u. a. mit dem Philharmonischen Orchester Vorpommern, der Polnischen Kammerphilharmonie Sopot, der Norddeutschen Philharmonie Rostock, der Neuen Philharmonie Westfalen und dem Orquesta Sinfónica de la Ciudad de Asunción (OSCA) auf. Mehrmals war er im Rundfunk auf NDR Kultur, im WDR, im ORF, sowie im Radio France live zu hören. Neben seiner solistischen Tätigkeit widmet sich Johann Blanchard leidenschaftlich der Kammermusik und ist seit 2016 Mitglied im renommierten, 1982 gegründeten Trio Parnassus. Das eigene Musizieren bedeutet für ihn jedoch nur wenig, wenn er die Begeisterung, die Musik in ihm hervorruft, nicht teilen kann. So unterrichtet er u.a. am Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Musikgymnasium Berlin und der Engelbert Humperdinck KMS Potsdam-Mittelmark. Verschiedene CD Aufnahmen für das Label MDG – Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm – begleiten seinen künstlerischen Werdegang.Für seine Aufnahme der Klavierwerke von Cecile Chaminade erhielt er den Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik und u.a. 2021 den Opus Klassik mit dem Trio Parnassus für die Kammermusikeinspielung der Werke von Johann Christian Rinck. Neben seiner großen Begeisterung für das klassische Repertoire und der unbekannten Klavier-/Kammermusikliteratur, interessiert er sich allerdings auch für den Jazz und andere Musikrichtungen und war mit Künstlern wie Andreas Henneberg, the Glitz und den Dortmunder Philharmonikern, dem Filmorchester Babelsberg und dem Orchester des Nationaltheater Mannheims in verschiedenen Crossover Projekten live zu hören. Johann Blanchard lebt seit 2018 in Berlin und ist in seiner Freizeit ein leidenschaftlicher Fussballfan und Liebhaber der französischen Küche und Weine.
